You don’t have to be 6’6” to be a part of the Clippers basketball organization. Scholarship Prep’s South Bay 5th-8th graders learned that there are many career paths in the sports and entertainment industry without a 45% field goal percentage, thanks to the Clippers Mentorship Career Panel event, which took place in our classrooms on Friday.

The LA Clippers and Forum staff members shared their pathways for success from college to their current roles in the communications, event management, and business operations departments and the valuable life lessons that our Scholars can benefit from as student-athletes.

Students learned the importance of managing their “personal brand” when posting on social media and through actions. With hard work, goal setting, and perseverance, college internships provide opportunities for those willing to further their knowledge and experience for a fulfilling career.

Although Clippers’ forward Paul George wasn’t available for the Zoom session, students learned from the panel what it’s like to work with and support elite athletes toward a common goal. In addition to being fun to work with, our guest speakers shared the importance of financial literacy, complimenting the many athletes who have expanded their horizons beyond basketball with sound investments and businesses.
