Scholarship Prep South Bay Students Go Behind the Scenes of Women’s Sports with the Los Angeles Sparks

Scholarship Prep South Bay Students Go Behind the Scenes of Women’s Sports with the Los Angeles Sparks

Scholarship Prep South Bay middle school Scholars kicked off National Girls and Women in Sports Day with an unforgettable visit from the team behind the scenes at the Los Angeles Sparks.

Members of the Sparks front office led a special panel in our newly remodeled school gym, giving students a court-side view of what it takes to run a professional women’s sports organization. We’re extremely thankful for panelists Natalie White, Senior Vice President, Community Relations & Social Impact; Hayley Tanabe, Director, New Business; Megan Gorecki, Senior Manager, Social; Alicia Ramirez, Videographer and Video Editor; and Estella Gutierrez, Coach for inspiring our 6th-8th grade girls.

Students asked questions about careers in sports, community impact, and how each panelist found her path into professional athletics. The conversation highlighted an important takeaway. There is more than one way to lead in sports, and every role matters.

After the panel, Scholars hit the court for a basketball clinic focused on fundamentals like dribbling, passing, and layups. The gym quickly turned into a space for teamwork and confidence-building as students practiced new skills in a supportive, encouraging environment.

This visit also marks the start of an exciting new community partnership between Scholarship Prep and the Los Angeles Sparks.

In the coming weeks, our South Bay campus will participate in Sparks-led youth basketball development sessions, and both the South Bay and Orange County campuses will host a new weekly celebration called Sparks Friday, featuring student-driven activities such as games, passion projects, and themed events with Sparks staff and mascot Sparky.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day honors the achievements of women athletes, coaches and leaders, and the power of sports to unlock their limitless potential. Thanks to the Los Angeles Sparks, our Scholars experienced all three in one powerful morning.
